I'm finally approved for foster adopt and it only took 8 months. Now it has been another 2 months and the CW tells me there are no children to be adopted. The case worker suggested looking for a broader range of children, so I chose the ages infant to 12 years old. The CW still says there are no children. I ask to be put on the state wide list along with her agency and she acted like I offended her. Can anyone offer advise to why it takes so long? or why these cw tell you there are no children when the state web site advertise over 1,000 children that need to be adopted. I contacted the state adoption headquarters and was told the CW was wrong. But she refuses to add me to the state AVERA program list which puts my home study out for other DSS agencies to see where I can be matched with children. I feel my case worker is just sitting on my paperwork. Can anyone give me advise? What can I do?
Go above your CW... talk to a supervisor. Put it in writing (email) to the supervisor (copy CW). If that doesn't work, keep going up the chain.

Wow -- with an age range of 0-12 you should be getting 100 calls a day for foster/adopt placements. . .
I agree with the above poster. Go above her head.
I'm with the other posters - probably time to go to her supervisor and see what can be done.
However, I'll remind you that there is more to expanding a range of children than just expanding on age. Because if someone is still expecting (for example) to be matched with a child without siblings, female, white, no emotional or behavior problems, perfectly healthy, no history of having been sexually or physically abused, and legally free - well, you could expand your search to 0-18 and you still might not find one. So if your restrictions other than age are, well, restricted, then that might be another place to look at expanding. Just a thought.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you all I lost the web address. I talked to the state HQ adoption CW and she advised me to have my current CW to add my name to the state list so I would have a better chance to get matched with a child. She also told me my home syudy was good for that agency and the whole state. So I went back to my CW and told her what the lady from the HQ stated she needed to do with my paperwork to get me on the state list. Now that a week has past my CW has called back saying she has misplaced several items from my homestudy which was completed over 2 months ago. Now I have to replace all this paperwork before she can tranfer my file to her superviser who will check the file then give her approval before sending it to the state HQ CW. So now my file/homestudy will be lost in the shuffle another 9 months. (thats how long it took me to get ceritified the first time) I'm going to call the lady back at the HQ to notify her of the crazyness they are putting me through and that they have lost my file for the third time. As for the child/agees I wanted, I was looking for a white/biracial/indian/latin/spanish child age infant to 11, with no physical disabilities. Educational, emotional = moderate, NO SEXUAL ABUSE, NO FIRE STARTING, NO PHYSICAL ABUSE. I have worked with learning disabilities such as ADD/ADHD, speach imparements. I'm willing to accept siblings up to 2 children, boys or girls. I just can not belive there are no matches, when I look on the state web site and see over 300 children and at least 20 matching what I'm looking for. So someone at the agency I'm currently with is just not being honest. I could see not wanting to loose a FP but not useing one then lying to them is wrong. Today the CW told me all she gets in is black children for this area. Well, I will just have to see how things go when I talk to the CW from the adoption HQ in the morning. Wish me luck. Maybe she will not lie or decriminate against me. If anyone has any sugestions please feel free to help out. I will be paitently waiting.
I noticed some of you said you signed your home study and received a letter you were approved for foster adopt. I received a certificate, is that the same? I guess every agency or state does it different. Or is this another lie from my case worker? Also did you get a copy of the home study? I ask for a copy for my records but I got a run around. Once you got your letter how long befor you got the call for a placement?

we got a copy of our home study everything done and completed approved waiting now to be matched called twice they say they are having a internal match meeting on the 19th of Jan hope to hear from them soon it,s been over a year in progrss we are waiting to be parents
You did say you got a copy of your home study? What state and area are you from? I was a Therapeutic foster parent in Washington county VA the first time and it took about 2 months to get certified for that and I had a child in about a month later. The child lived with us for about 11 great months. I fell in love with him and would had loved to adopt him but he was given back to his parents and I"m active duty Army and i was in the middle of a transfer so i was moved to FT Lee VA. After moving I contacted the agency hear and it took 10 months of me constantly staying on top of them and them loosing my paperwork 3 times, 2 CW and me calling the state office before getting certified. But finally the Th month I got the certificate. Now I got a call from the CW saying she lost more paperwork and needs to replace it. She also says there are no children for foster adopt and I cant have a copy of the home study. I know a run around when I see it, so i contacted the HQ and requested to be added to the state list where I had a better chance to be matched up with a child. I was told the agency I was working with was not going to match my color. I thought that was raciest, especially when they did not even give it a chance. every one I have talked to has gotten a copy of there home study but this agency refuses to let me have a copy. Why is it so hard to adopt from DSS? I thought it would be easier. The state web sight has over 300 children waiting for homes. Oh well I'm a patient person I just don't like mind games. Wish me luck.
I am from Florida and it's been so frustrating it seems you have to keep on top of them we are still waiting and had our approval sence november2006 our cw never called us we called her they had an internal match meeting on the 19th of jan we still havent heard anything how do you get on the state list
I contacted the state adoption DSS and was told the local DSS could add me to the list. I'm waiting on my CW to add me to the list. But I have been waiting for 3 weeks. I'm going to call the state agency today. i'm also thinking of calling the congressman to see if he can light a fire under them. There is no excuse that tey have so many children on the web site that needs homes and I have been aproved. But we have CW's who put our paper work in a file cabinet or on a desk and leave it for decoration or to collect dust instead of doing their jobs and find the children a home. Anyway I will keep you informed on how things go with the state list. I know MICH State also has a state list and they waive there adoption fees to find homes for foster children. So I'm looking into that state also. I was told FL also had something like that. well I will get back to you soon. Wish me luck.
