Just got another call for another boy...
The placement specialist didn't read that I was only taking girls before she called....I said I would consider taking him if he was an infant..then he could sleep in the crib in my room..she says he is 6 y/o
I really wish they wouldn't call unless they have a child that can actually be placed with me..it gets my hopes up too high..and it just makes me feel bad when I have to say no....
She said they will probably be calling me again soon

I actually got a placement last Tuesday (2/20) of a now 2 month old baby boy...He is so precious...but I am severely sleep deprived....as I still work full time and I am single He got shots yesterday and is extra cranky and feverish..so last night was especially hard....but I love taking care of him I'm already in love with him!!! I'll be so sad when he leaves (still don't know how long he will be with me)....but I am glad that I can provide him a safe place to live for now.... I am actually also waiting to be matched for straight adoption, as well. The adoption specialist here has been sending out my homestudies for specific children that I am interested in and she also has passed it out to all the local adoption workers...so while I wait..I'm fostering and who knows I may get to adopt a child I'm fostering too.... anyway good luck on your journey!
Got my license in the mail Monday and it says I am licensed for 4 :grouphug: ....when they called and told me I was licensed they said I was only licensed for 2....I guess that is good for the future should I decide to foster 4 kids at once...but right now I'll stick to the one child I have :cloud9: and keep waiting to be matched with my forever child:cheer:

How exciting for you. You have got to be busy with those 3. : ) I don't understand one thing...I read/hear so many stories about people finding out they are officially licensed and then start getting calls before they even have their license. I was told by our recruiter that we have been approved by the state but that she has to wait for our license before we can receive a child. We are in Volusia County, working with The Children's Home Society.
We are also in volusia/flagler county. How long did it take from your mapp classes until you became liscensed? We begin our Mapp Classes May 12th with Florida United Methodist Children's Home. Our classes are only 5 weeks long and we were just wondering how long it may take before we're liscensed.
:coffee: Start MAPP classes May 12th
We took our MAPP classes through the Children's Home Society. I can't tell you how long it will take for you to get licensed after MAPP because after taking our MAPP classes, we decided to hold off on getting licensed. We actually took our classes a year and a half ago! I do know however that many people who were in our MAPP class, got licensed fairly quick....like within a month after finishing classes. A lot of times they will go ahead and come out to your house and do your homestudy, etc while you are still taking the classes. Do as much as you can, such a finger printing, health inspection, homestudy, etc at same time you are going through MAPP and then by the time MAPP is done, all they will have to do is submit your file to the state for final approval. I don't know however how the Children's Home works...they may not let you do those things until you have finished MAPP, but you could ask.
Good luck!

In answer to your question and a brief introduction to my situation. I started the MAPP classes in January of this year (Duval). I am expecting to be licensed by the middle or end of May. I could have gotten it sooner I think, but I just took my time (relatively speaking) to get the child(ren)'s room painted and organized. I also have been trying to time it to when I get out of school for the summer. I am getting really excited at this point. Everything has gone through and I am just waiting for the paperwork to go to the state. I will be licensed for 2 and am requesting girls under the age of three. I know Florida doesn't have a formal foster to adopt program but I am hoping that I will eventually adopt one or two of the children that I am lucky enough to parent. Best wishes to you as you begin this journey. I will let you know when I get my license. I am happy that I didn;t ruch through the process quicker. I kept reminding myself that it takes month of trying and 9 months of pregnancy to give birth to a baby. Spending a little more time processing the idea that I was going to be a parent soon, preparing myself, my friends family and house have been a good thing. I have also been able to read lots of the post on these forums and feel that I am getting myself psychologically prepared for the ups and downs of foster parenting. Thanks so much to all who have posted.
