I also posted this under 'adult adoptees', 'search and reunion', and accidentally under 'sealed records', although I believe they are sealed.
I am a 46 yr.old adoptee in search of medical records, partly due to health issues I already have. As indicated in the subject line, I was born in CO (Grand Junction) on 12/27/60. My birth name was Donna Faye Hanks, and I have an older brother who was also adopted by the same couple (DOB 11/26/59; born in Fruita, CO). All I know about the rest of my birth family is that the last name was Hanks, the father was a miner, the mother had red hair, and there was almost certainly a sister older than my brother. This is my first consideration/attempt to find any info related to them, other than a form I mailed to the courts last week, and truly was ORIGINALLY just a search for medical records. I am not ignorant to the possibility of an attempt at reunion by them, nor would I say I would refuse to respond. Now that I've taken this small step, for whatever reason, I am finding myself more and more emotional, anxious/scared, etc. Hope I am ready for whatever comes, including no response. The courts said I would be assigned to a 'confidential intermediary', or something like that, which I am not sure I can afford. So, anyway, I do have some Q's for someone about medical records/health issues. No matter if I get a response from them or not, as always I wish them the best, and will continue to pray for them from time to time. Thanks to all who read my ramblings!!:)

How about putting your information into this registry: Adoption Search and Reunion for Adoptees, Birth Moms, Adoptive Families And for support before searching, during searching and after searching, there is a Colorado Registry yahoo group .The above registry is not the same as the state run voluntary registry but is a separate registry. There are over 5200 entries in this registry so there is a good chance that you could find or be found here.

do you have any other non-id? Were birthparents married? age of birthparents, did birthparents have any siblings etc? this info may help you determine if you are contacting the right people. If you do decide to contact people you are unsure are related to you I would suggest you do it in writing and include a self address stamped envelope for them to reply. The letter should be basic and should not give out the reason for contact. Use a geneaolgy approach, something along the lines that you are tracing some family history or trying to reconnect with someone you knew along time ago. Then you would put that you believe the last time you saw each other was just after Christmas in 1960. This way you don't let out a potential secret to someone else who may pick up the letter. If you have the correct person, they will know why you are contacting. Hope this helps. Also I believe I saw on one of your posts that you will be set up with a confidential intermediary. I believe the current cost for this service is $875 with the potential for additional search fees.
Hope this help you in making a decision.
