Our 7 month old foster baby is sick. I took him to the clinic this morning. The doctor thinks he may have Reactive Airway Disease, which is pretty much asthma, they just can't diagnose at this age. She wrote 3 prescriptions for him. One of them being a nebulizer breathing treatment 3 times a day.
Anyway, while looking through his case folder, I noticed a paper that says Medication Log. A space for the kind of medicine administered, how much, and date and time it was given. I know that when he was with his previous foster family he was on medications at several different times, but they have nothing logged on this sheet. I assume I'm supposed to fill it in, every time I give him something, right? I went ahead and did it for today, for each time I gave him any medication. With 3 different prescriptions and most of them being taken 3 times a day, the log is going to fill up fast. Am I truly supposed to be writing down each and every time I give him something? Thanks!

My son is on several medications that have to be taken a couple times a day. I handle it this way.
I made my own chart up.
basically...
make colums along the top of the page.
Date & time/ Medication#1/ Medication#2/ Other Meds. / Notes
then in rows going down just put each day of the month or just leave those lines blank and you fill in the date/time each day as needed leaving room to add lots of notes or other medications as needed. you may even leave a couple blank columns in case the dr. add's more medications during that month that need to be taken regularly(antibiotics...etc)
that way the regular medications/doses/times are already written down for each day. Then all you have to do is either put a check mark (or time..if you want to be technical) each time you give that medication.
When your child has to take medication that's not in his normal routine you can hand write it in the other meds section. Then under notes you can log any problems he's having (diahrea, couphing, allergies, fever etc).
