Hi all... I am starting to research foster/adoption, and feel that adopting thru the state would be best for me. I would like to be licensed for foster (aim to adopt) and straight adoption, with an age range of 0-1 year, but am open to race and gender; this is me wanting an infant but also for the practical reason of space in my home.
Which brings me to first question: I live in a one bedroom house, but my bedroom is HUGE and can quite easily be separated with a partition of some sort to make a nursery, with plenty of room for all the "necessary" furniture and (I feel) privacy. Has anyone had a similar situation, or heard of one? Should I speak to an agency about this before I do any classes?
Second question is, I live in Pinellas and have heard good and bad things about the agency in Sarasota, are there other agency options that work with the state? Thanks in advance for any input.

I have just started the process. I start my classes tomorrow and have filled out my initial packet of paperwork. I have been reading on here for several weeks now. The one bedroom will be fine for a child younger than 1 year. On their 1st birthday they have to be in a room of their own. I would call the agency and talk to them or stop by. I have gotten a lot of information from talking to the lady that will be teaching the class. Good luck!!

Hi.. we're fostering in Pinellas also. I'd say get the rules prior to attending MAPP. I forget at what age, but you will need a separate bedroom eventually. There aren't too many choices on agencies in Pinellas. If you don't use the SCC you probably won't have a baby placed with you. The other private agencies such as Camelot are more along the lines of medical foster care and/or older children with mental health issues. Good luck
