When did you all start letting your little one have a pillow? H is suffering from bronchitis right now (and we are suffering with him!!) He's a lot more comfortable w/ his head elevated. Last night, he woke up coughing and I put him in the rocker for a second while I reached into his crib for his blanket. (I couldn't reach it while I was holding him) When I turned around, he'd scooted down into the seat of the rocker (big upholstered one) w/ his head on the little decorative kidney pillow that is in it. He'd already gone back to sleep. I wound up putting him back into his crib w/ the pillow, which is pretty flat. He slept better than he has all week.

I started my girls with pillows when they were nearly two. One thing we did, though, when they both had pneumonia at 18 months and were getting breathing treatments, etc. was elevate their crib mattresses. We lifted up one end and put a pillow underneath the mattress. It worked for us so I thought I'd pass on the idea!
My kids are from Russia and they tend to have pillows and blankets very young. I gave them both toddler size pillows (One Step Ahead sells them) shortly after their first birthdays. One thing that we did do when they were sick when younger was put a pillow under the mattress so that way we didn't worry about the pillow and the whole end of the crib was elevated.

Thanks, guys. The crib mattress is elevated already, but the pillow made a big difference last night---he actually slept until almost 5:30 this morning. Doc says another week of breathing treatments, though :( I will check out One Step Ahead---I just used the flat kidney pillow again last night.
A pillow? Oh, is that the softish, square-ish thing their head is supposed to stay on? My five year-old starts out with hers, but ends up with her head at the other end of the bed by midnight. Usually with her legs hanging over the side. :)
My 2 1/2 year old still doesn't have one - he doesn't want one - but he stuffs his blanky behind his head when he sleeps.
I think that as long as it is safe for deep sleeps, you're fine. Just imagine them falling asleep with their face down, or getting stuck with the pillow against their face near the bed-rail. if that can happen, and the pillow is soft enough or big enough, then no. But the little kidney pillow you mentioned, or a flat, firm pillow should be okay. I like One Step Ahead, too - except they are way too tempting and I want to buy stuff! So I have to stay away. LOL.
How's that for a not very helpful post? I try! :)
