Hi, my husband and I have been chatting with a potential birthmom from Michigan for the past six weeks. We've developed quite a relationship with both her and her mother, and its looking more likely that she'll go through with placement. She's very young, only 15 and in 8th grade. The boy that got her pregnant is 14 (yikes!). We are flying out to meet her at the end of July. Can anyone give me more information about relinquishment within Michigan? I've heard that the birthmom can't sign relinquishment until 72 hours after birth, but is there a time period after they sign where they can change their mind? We live in Utah, and here their rights are irrovocable after they sign. I was just wondering if Michigan was one of those states where they have a few days after they sign where they could legally decide to parent? Also, how long does it take the interstate compact to clear in Michigan? If she does go through with it I figure we'd be out there for at least two weeks, but I was wondering what is typical.
Thanks for any input!
