Hi, I am all new to fostering and kinship care so I have some questions. I have 2 second cousins that will be moving in with me and their case worker doesn't seem to return calls. I have been told that I will receive $268 for the 1st child, and $90 for the second child each month. Definitely not a lot of assistance there. Because I work 2nd shift, daycare assistance will be provided. My questions are: I make too much money for food stamps, is there any other assistance that I can get to help with financial matters? And because I work 2nd shift, can I get a nanny to stay with the children while I'm at work instead of daycare and still have it paid for by children services?
Thanks

My first thought was that you should really become a licensed foster home. That step right there would increase your monthly stipend. It would involve taking classes and doing background checks, etc. but it is all paid for and you will get more support, both financially and otherwise.Secondly, if the kids are young enough they will qualify for WIC, which won't be based on your salary. It is based on the fact that they are wards of the state and will be getting state insurance. If they are school aged, then because they are wards of the state and on state insurance they will get free lunches/breakfasts. Snack time milk is separate but should be at a reduced price. How old are the kids? Not sure on this one, but if you aren't thrilled with the agency/office the CW is with, you may be able to be licensed through a different agency and have the case transferred. I'm really not sure on this point, so it would be worth asking someone about.Your profile says that this link may be the relevant one for you: https://jfs.ohio.gov/ocf/fostercarelicensing.stm
