This is assuming your DS is fairly mobile... try playing hide-n-seek. I say try because chances are he'll just chase you. (hmm... you could probably also play tag!). I'll hide somewhere just out of sight from my DD and whistle or make some kind of noise (she now knows just to come find me, so I'll only make noise if she has a hard time finding me)... for example, I can hide beside her crib and peek out her door (so I know she's coming) but she can't readily see me. When she finds me we cuddle and laugh and do it again.

Tea party. ALL (boys and girls, all ages) my kids love tea party. You can have pretend food or real food. You can use the toy tea set, too. We have two tea sets; one plastic for the toy shelf, one china that I keep put up and only take out for special tea parties. We like to have little cheerios or gold fish crackers or other small items as they fit even on the tiniest of tea set plates. Also my toddlers love to put things (ANY thing) into something (box, cup, hat, any container) and take them out again. You could go for a walk around the house and 'find' items to put in your 'treasure chest' and then sit down and take them out and put them in. Oooo, the thrills just abound! Ok, it's boring at times, but my kids always get a huge sense of...satisfaction? something like that, in putting in and taking out.

We play "magic carpet" where H sits on a beach towel or blanket and gets dragged across the hardwood floors. Dance party w/ mom & dad is very popular. If you have a carpeted family room or someplace w/ some space, an exercise ball can be very entertaining. You can roll it, roll over it, try to balance on it, etc. I'm hesitant to suggest this because it is SO MESSY, but pudding paint is kind of fun. Use food coloring and dye vanilla pudding a few colors. Let them paint the bathtub or their high chair tray w/ it.
So much for all the activity books I've looked at - if my babe in the evenings seems bored and doesn't want to do anything else, here are our two surefire games (If yours walks well yet): Blankie Bull FIghting: I stand in the middle of the room and wave his blankie back and forth, and he runs through it, between a couch and chair. I think he just loves the feel of it hitting him and sliding over him (works best w/ his blankie that has the slickery all on one side). He giggles and giggles and never wants to stop. Before he was walking/running, I just let him sit/lie on the floor/couch and dropped it onto and off him over and over. Stop/Go - working on teaching him stop was my main reason for this, but he grabs one end of blankie, I grab another, and we go through the hoouse, around furniture and to all the ro oms, he trails behind me. I say "Go!" Go go go. Then suddenly say "Stop!" and slam to a halt and look back at him. He thinks it's hilarious... This game usually goes on too long for me, but he loves it! He's also been going to story time lately once a week, and that has piqued his interest in songs w/ motions (itsy bitsy spider, etc). He started coloring a little after a year, but dind't really get into it until a couple months ago. I remember my niece LOVING it from the very start, though.
