Anyone else with serious climbing kids? Both my girls can climb straight up a pole, they are 3 & 4 and today, I found them gripping the moulding edge of the door frame and walking all the way up to the top of the door. Imagine a rope hanging down one side of the door frame and being used to climb up that side.....
In the past they have also grabbed the handle on the fridge and climbed right up the front of the side by side fridge. My younger daughter got to the top of the handle and then even opened the freezer door.
I have them in gymnastics but not sure how else to direct this skill/energy/ability.....

They are shocking proficient climbers. Thankfully neither one has fallen, if they do get hurt, it is because they bumped something on the way down. I can't keep them off the playground so instead I've tried to teach them how to be safe while climbing. With two of them it became impossible for me to keep them down. If I was retreiving and reprimanding one, even for a second, the other would be up the pole like a shot.
Not to encourage them, more to show DH, I was able to get a couple of photos of them at the top of the door. Gabriella was playing in water just before this, which is why her pants look wet.
Funny that this should come up today! I was just telling dh how Castle is now climbing the stairs on the OUTSIDE of the banister! I have caught her twice at the top laughing, she has no fear of anything so I am not sure how to get her to stop. Right now the TV is off limits for her because of this. She is 3 1/2.
Wow!! They are really good. Have you considered purchasing one of the jungle gym swingset playtoys? Perhaps limiting the climbing to that would be safer and easier on your home.
LOL! I thought my son was the only one...I swear he can climb a flat, smooth wall. (Guess that's why he is going to be Spiderman for Halloween!) He was trying to climb/pull up before he could sit up.

With him, part of it is related to his sensory issues...but part of it is just him. We do have safe climbing things/areas in our house. He still has his Kangaroo Climber in his room...and we have a swing/climber playground in our back yard. He is still find him scaling the cabinets etc. :prop:
