The other day I was at my 4 year old sons preschool. I was talking to a friend who was dropping off her Grandson. My friend is a couple years older than I am. Granted, I do have a daughter who is 19 & COULD have a child but doesn't. My friends daughter is mid 20's. Okay so there is the background.
So I'm talking to my friend about who weird it is for us to me able to be Grandparents. This YOUNG MOM whose daughter is in my sons class & who is old enough to be MY daughter says to me, while we are talking, "You look too young to be a Grandma." I am NOT in a good mood already & I say to her, "Or I'm an old MOM! This is my son, not my Grandson." My friend thought it was hilarious, I didn't. LOL
Is it that odd to be a parent who is SLIGHTLY older?? I am only 44, I was 40 when Caleb was born, not that all uncommon to even have bio children at an older age.
Here is the most recent picture I could find of me, HONESTLY...am I that old looking??

okay.... ummmm... which one are you?
Anyway, don't let it get to you...44? I am almost 52 and have one in preschool!
DebCsmom as all the others said....you look great(by the way great looking family).
It is really hard when some people make rude comments and just don't think. Doesn't help if the day isn't going well for you.
May tomorrow bring you a better and brighter day...and may no one make a rude comment to you.
Well, I think you look great.
I don't think it's uncommon for people to have children when they are in their 40's, at least in most areas of the country.
In my area, I'm one of the older moms of a baby that I know. But many people are still in high school when they start having babies, or at the very latest in their early 20's, so I AM old because I waited until I was in my late 20's. My mom had me at 32 and was ALWAYS the oldest parent of children my age, by several years at the least.
I think we all just should have kids whenever WE are ready for them, you know? And people shouldn't be so judgmental of others' decisions.

I'm not looking for "you loom great" LOL BUT THANKS!!!!! I guess I was just in a bad mood. I'm "feeling" old lately & that GIRL did NOT help. LOL Just wanted you to all feel my pain. LOL
You guys are AWESOME!! If I do feel OLD again, I will for sure come to you all!!

I'm 42 and have a 20 y/o bio son, 9 y/o ason and 3 1/2 y/o adaughter...I've been asked about a half dozen times since we got her if she was my granddaughter then the next thing I'm told I don't look old enough to have a 20 y/o!!! It depends on my mood as to how I answer and if I get peeved over it.

Hey you all...You are all awsome parents! Age is nothing. We are wiser and more experienced than the young ones....remember that you all!
Stay strong and we are here for you all!
Egh......while we're talking about age.....Dh and I are 50 with an almost six year old, a four year old and a 10month old. (All were infants when they came.)
Next time someone blurts out that 'grandma stuff'........ask them 'Why would you say THAT?!"
I've not been able to say that comment---yet. (Though someone DID ask me the other day if I was the grandmother, but it caught me off guard.)
But, I think you look fine. And truthfully, so WHAT if any of us look to be the grandmother? When folks say this, perhaps we oughta say, 'Really? Just how OLD do you think I AM?'
That oughta shut 'em up, huh? LOL
Sincerely,
Linny

I love that!!!! I've decided that even with my rheumatoid arthritis that I don't feel old. My dh and I have decided that either our dd will keep us young or kill us!!! We'll get back to ya on that one in 10 years or so!:flower: :laundry:
anytime my 25 year old daughter is with me, everyone thinks she is my 7 year old son's mom. it use to really bother me, now i just let my daughter explain. SHE thinks it's funny. what is so bad, even my 18 year old daughter is thought to be the mom instead of me and i'm only 45. wow, i don't think i've ever used the word 'only' to describe 45....sounded rather good!

I think you look great! I'm 34 and am frequently asked if my 29 year old sil is my daughter. (OK, so she looks 12, but I know I can't look old enough to be her Mom!)
I have said to someone before, "Yes, I had her a month and a half before I turned 5." Wow, they believed me! LOL!
I'm 50 and have an adoptive son who's 3.5....I also have a grand daughter who is 7 weeks younger then my son. My daughter LOVES telling people that her daughter and her little brother are only 7 weeks apart...to which almost ALL say..."you and your mom were preg. at the same time????"...LOL. We just laugh about it all now.
We are also fostering a 2yr. girl...so I guess I'll ALWAYS look like there grandma.....OH WELL....Mommy...Grandma....it's still all about LOVE!!!
Cindi, I've known you for many years & you don't look 50 at all!!!!! Can you believe our babies are this old already??? :(

WLD, I have a 23 year old daughter and when we are out together with my 2 year old, and Natalie is being particularly "2 ish", I just pretend I'm the grandma and admonish my older daughter in how she is raising "her" child!! Funny . . . OK, well at least I think so.
That is hysterical! i'm going to have to remember that one. My daughter will probably not be amused but it sounds like something i would do:)
