My worst costume was the one year that Mom let me wear a store bought coustume. Wearing the mask wasn't nearly as much fun as I thought it would be.
As for the best... that is hard too because I have had some pretty cool costumes, especially as an adult! DH and I actually won first place in costumes contestss two year in a row, and 2nd place the third year. The first year he was an ax murderer and I was his victim. The next year we were old people... complete with padded body suits and wrinkled skin (latex and napkins). The year we took second there was a large group of us that went together. I was the fairie godmother, my friend Lisa was Cinderella, her husband was Prince Charming, my friend Ann was the wicked step mother, and my husband and another guy were the ugly step sisters. And boy were they ugly!

I'm not sure how old you are, but if you are anywhere near my age (mid 30's) the store bought costumes were
HORRIBLE when I was a child! They were cheap pieces of plastic, no better than garbage bags, with awful plastic masks...Boy, have they come a long way since then!! Fortunately, my mom was an awesome sewer (something I certainly didn't inherit). She made all of our costumes when we were little, and they were so well made that we still have them. I wish my boys would wear them but they would rather be superheros than a scarecrow or clown lol.
My best ones have been as an adult---one year I was Tammy Faye Bakker, another year we won the law school contest with our "gum stuck to the bottom of shoes" costumes. Pink trashbags, pink tights, and old shoes glued onto headbands & ball caps.
