OK, so he's not in major trouble, but, he really should learn to listen!!!!
He brought back some shells for the boys and he "rinsed" them off and put them in the fish tank. We have a fresh water tank.
I said, "Did you let them soak?" He said, "nah, it'll be fine, I rinsed them."
Immediately, one fish died. I have 2 more acting sick and my favorite fish is no where to be found. He was all of our favorite because he would "play" with you. He'd follow your finger, let you pet him, move his lips if you started talking to him, etc. Grrrr!!! Will he ever learn to listen!
I have a very bad feeling they are all gonna die and we'll have to start all over. :hissy:
Oh dear! I know where you are coming from - we love our fish!
We had a major die-off a while ago becuase ds got his hands on the fish food and 'fed' them. Ugh. He was so sad.
I feel your pain. :(

Thanks. It's weird how attached you can get to fish! My Dalmation Molly really had an awesome personality.
I had to quit watching the tank today. One of the guppies is having fry and well, I really don't like watching them get eaten but I also can't catch either the adult or the fry! So far, at least 2 are able to hide and are still making it.
Uh Oh!! No way to move the babies into a different tank? To leave the adult one alone in the tank for a bit?
Sounds like dh needs to get to the petstore and start paying back for his mistake. And a few windows and cleaning ds's room might help too.
Guppy fry? We have 3 5 day old guppy fry now. I saw them the other day, thought...hmmm...if I do nothing, then the problem will go away. Uh huh.
Now we have a 5 gal tank setup just for the fry. It is at 80 degrees, and I bought liquid fry food. I was able to catch 2 of them in my net, but the third kept slipping thru. I used a dixie cup on him.
I googled how to care for the fry, and my son is very proud of his babies. :)
I am a sap. I will send $$$ saving 3 5mm babies. Good thing my dh understands. :)

Would you like some help with this? You can buy some extra fake greenery for the tank - something thick that you don't think an adult would force its way through - the fry know to hide in it until they're bigger. Fake plants usually cost $4-$6 apiece.
Or, most fish stores sell tank dividers. Get one and wait until parents and fry are on different sides of the tank, and slide in the divider so they can't reach each other any more. (Some stupid fry may force themselves through the holes in the divider, but they really have to try to do that, and if they do it anyway, well then it's just survival of the fittest...) Temporary tank dividers usually cost $9 - $12 for a 20 gallon tank.
We humans really do get attached to ur pets - whether they have fur, feathers, or fins!

Thanks you guys. I have a breeder net, but the adults seem to be able to jump over the ledge, so that doesn't do a whole lot of good. I have plants, too, but probably need to get some more. I have a huge catfish and so far nothing seems to stop him!
So far those 2 little ones are making it. Maybe I do need to get another tank just for the fry and make dh catch them. I'm sure the boys would love that!
DS was able to catch 9 fry! I guess we had more than 2 little ones! We've seen at least 3 more and there's no telling how many. He was stressing the adult fish out too much so I told him he had to quit for now. After vaccuuming the tank yesterday and hubby putting shells in and fish dying, I think we don't need to stress them too much. DS is so excited! I'm going to tell dh he needs to go get a small tank for the fry.
You need to run to the library and get the book, "Henry Huggins" by Beverly Cleary. My kids love to listen to this; we have it on audio. Even the little kids like it. (2 and 3 yo) There's a chapter in there about Henry's guppy experience. :D
LOL, we are having a guppy experience! Normally, we are fortunate if we get to see one or two before they "disappear." Now, we have around 25 in the breeder net and at least 20 more we've seen and not been able to catch yet. I did tell dh to go get a small tank for them. He said he will consider. I think since he killed off our favorite fish with his shells, he at least owes us a small 3 to 5 gallon "nursery." ;)
