I know we all are very busy with our families. But I know that I do get to read a book (beginning to end) every once in a great while.
So my question is what was the last book you just read? And would you recommend it for others to read?
Not sure which category this goes in, but I just read "The Kite Runner" That was a wonderful book.
I found myself compelled yet repelled at the same time. The story was well-told, resulting in several late nights reading when I couldn't put it down. It's a book that leaves you a different person than you were before you read it, so in my book that's good literature. Thanks to my friend Irene for lending me this book and insisting that I read it!

My last book I read from cover to cover was
"Curious George goes to the Library" :) . I seem to never have time to read for myself. I have trouble keeping up with my woodworking magazines. I try and read a little bit of those at bedtime. I've got about 5 Harry Potter books sitting here that I need to catch up on. Maybe someday.........
The last several books I've finished have all been adoption related books and most I would recommend. I'm just now getting started on the Dog Whisperer book and I'll have to let you know if I recommend it or not after I try out a few of his techniques on my dogs.
I've been on a Jodi Picoult kick lately----just finished Keeping Faith, which was excellent. My MIL and I are also working our way through Anita Shreve's books and some Anne River Siddons---I went through Fox's Earth in the car on the way back from a shopping trip last weekend.
Jodi Picoult is a better writer, but I have to confess that Anne Siddons books are well written for what they are, and since I read all day, I need fluff every once in a while.

I love Jodi Picoult books as well. I read at bedtime anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 hour. It's my time and I need it to unwind. I love to read.... I just picked up "Till Morning Is Nigh" by Leisha Kelly. It's just a short, little, sweet Christmas story. Some light reading. I love the ones that just suck you in and you can't put them down!

I like Jodi Picoult too.....but I did not love her latest book (I think it is called "19 Minutes.").
I just discovered a new "fluffy mystery" writer that I like named Laura Lippman (her heroine is a Baltimore PI named Tess Monaghan).
The last book I finished was The Keep by Jennifer Egan. It was really good, though if I were going to recommend my favorite fairly recent book, I think I would put on the list Away by Amy Bloom (my mom didn't like it though!).
I have been trying to read more lately, though if DD is awake, she just comes over and punches the book in, so it's hard!
I thought 19 minutes was great! I read it really quickly. I also love Karen Kingsbury, she's a christian author.
"Pictures of Hollis Woods", a book meant for teens, but about a child growing up in foster care.
Wasn't that just a movie on tv? Sounded really good but didn't get to see it however I think reading the book is always far better than watching the movie.

I did recently catch the very end of it on t.v. as I did not know it was made into a movie and just happened onto it.
I voted "sci-fi" because that's as close to "horror" as it gets. I don't remember what the title was but I know it was a Dean Koontz book. :)
I love Dean Koontz....his latest books have been less fun to read as his earilier books.
Thank you all for these great suggestions!
The same goes for Sephen King, his early books are great the newer ones are not! I like Dean Koontz a lot. The first one I read was Watchers. I just read The Husband. It was okay, I was disappointed we found out "who did it" so soon in the book.
