My husband I are attending our 5th MAPP class this evening. We had a SW out this week to start out homestudy. Since we are already adoptive parents she has a copy of one written last year.Today we had our Health inspection. I spent all of yesterday and this morning getting ready. We are being required to install additional door alarms because of our pool. We already have double locks on all the doors, a four foot high fence and a brinks alarm. :hissy: I can't get to the pool I have to ask my husband to help me! I do completely understand the need to keep children safe. I was looking at alarms online and found the "intermic wireless window alarm" at homedepot. I wanted to see if anyone has one or what others have done to complete there inspection. Also I have a question in regard to who qualifies for preschool and daycare reimbursement and how much you get? Is it accourding to age?. I asked my SW and she didn't know and said something about contacting the four C's?Things are moving along faster then I expected. I am going to look at a few preschools next week and would like to know how much tuition I will be responsible for.:coffee: Thank you in advance for any advice

I had the exact same problem with my pool. I have a privacy fence around the yard, but none around the pool. I had double child locks on all the doors leading out to the pool along with alarms on the doors. I still failed the health inspection because, I didn't have the fence. According to DCF you have to have at least 2 barriors to the pool. They counted the alarm, door locks and the privacy fence. I wasn't the only one in my county with the problem. I bought the alarms at the pool store. You have to push a button and it gives you a few seconds to get out. If you don't press the button, it goes off immediatly.
My agency sets everything up for daycare. I am not sure about preschool. I have not had any that age yet. The only thing I would have to pay is the registration fee, which they mostly wave and if the 4-c doesn't cover the entire amount, which it doesn't, but so far they have waved also.
Good luck to you!

I don't know anything about the pool regs (because I don't have one :-( but about the daycare i don't know if your fostering or adopting and what county. In our county, once you get a child in your home usually the caseworker will send a referral to the agency that provides the subsidies and you have to make an appt. with them (they have 10 days to get you in, so be prepared to pay for a daycare out of pocket for at least 1 week). In our county all foster children qualify for the childcare subsidy. Each agency is different and will only pay up to a certain amount, for example, 1 of my kids gets up to $93./wkly, most schools cost $125., so technically, I have to pay out of the pocket the excess plus a parent fee (which is usually $1.50 a day). There are 2 different types of schools contracted (which take whatever the agency gives them and just charges the parent fee) or the other schools, who will take what the state gives, plus charge you the parent fee, plus the difference.
I highly suggest getting several schools lined up, because when they call you, it'll be hard to find a school that can fit them in.
Good Luck!!!
Last night in class we received a packet of information from the 4C. It says that money is avaible non-working parents based on funds at the time to pay for preschool? I am going to have a look at a few schools to get prepared. For me knowing the resources avaible ahead of time is a huge factor. I want to be confident that I am not going to burn out. I put calls into the referral manager at 4C and hope she has the time to respond. I also called the Health Department Inspector to see if he could be more specific in what he needs from us. As far as I can tell we have two barers with a screen that enclosing the pool a four foot high safety fence, a brinks alarm and double locks. Our social worker said we could expect to finished by March 1st!
I'm kinda confused. Why would they provide childcare to non-working moms???? If your not working, why would you need childcare services, that is the most asinine thing I've heard.
As far as the pools concerned, you should be able to get a discount on your homeowners insurance policy for taking all the precautions. As Floridians, we all know we will take any deductions into our policies.
Good Luck!
I'm looking into assistant for preschool not "day care". I can think of lots of reasons why children should attend a high quality pre-school for 2,3,4 year olds. Since we are willing to take up to three children and we have two at home one is approaching preschool age. The cost could be extreme. In my area part time preschool is $100 week. I don't mind bringing 5 children under the age of 6 to the grocery store and doctors appointments. I just dont think it is best for the children to get dragged around town on errands:confused: . I hope in the future I can post here with questions and not be criticized.

You should check into headstart program through the public schools. I know they wont be able to approve or dissapprove you until they meet the children , but if the child has some sort of disability (speech impediment or something along those lines ) they are usually accepted. It all depends on how many slots they have available , but there isnt any cost.
I'm sorry if it sounded that way, I didn't mean to critisize anyone. I thought it was the program that would only allow childcare services for non-working moms.
With that many kids I too would be looking into child care services whether part or full time. It's hard enough for me to go to the mall with 3 let alone 5.
