Due to the high demand to adopt from Vietnam & the recent "sticky" situation with future adoptions , I have noticed a lot of agencies closing thier Vietnam programs.
In fact ours just closed their VN program and stopped taking application from new families. Those of us already in the program are fine but no one else can apply.
How many of you are in the same situation? What are your thoughts on it?
My agency also is no longer taking new applications as of last Monday. I did receive an e-mail stating those in the process are fine. I think this could be a good thing until Vietnam clears up a bit and the agencies can get their bearings on the future of the program and the amount of famalies interested. With other counties having bumps or very long wait times the surge of famalies choosing Vietnam may have been a bit more then anyone was fully ready for.

Ours hasn't stop taking applications. They have stopped accepting applications for girls until further notice. We asked our agency about some of the problems over there. They told us that it is in one province, and they are staying away from that one.
Our agency has stopped taking applications for new families, although it seems to be related to the number of families already in the program, rather than a belief that the country will shut down. They want to keep the wait for referral to a reasonable timeframe.
The country will not shut down for adoptions; My home country is just about to open Vietnam up, so I think they just want to calm down the American applications untill their cooperating agencies in Vietnam and authorities figure out what is oing on.

Our agency stopped taking applicants for babies and toddlers in mid-summer and up to 4 years old in October.
They still list older and special needs children though, once in a while.
Nothing too unexpected to be honest. You had a low number of adoptions in Vietnam and then China for all intents and purposes closes its door to roughly 2/3s of adopting parents, so they have to go somewhere...the next easiest place to adopt asian girls...
...Vietnam.
Like it or not that's the way it works.
