I'm a single AA female who is looking to adopt a female child, between 3-8 years old. My homestudy was completed and approved this past August, and I've made several inquiries on children I've seen online, but have heard nothing. For those of you who have already been matched with a child, how long did it take? I know it really hasn't been that long, but not knowing and not hearing anything makes it a bit frustrating. However, I know in the long run, it'll all be worth it. I would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this, or is currently going through this, especially any single adoptive parents out there like me. Thanks!!!

Hi,
I am also a single AA. I got my first call from my agency about 4 months after homestudy and profile completion. That one didn't work out, nor did the second call I got which was about 1 month later. I was matched about 6 months after approval. When I did get matched, everything went very fast from that point because the baby was already born.
Good luck.

Angel619,
Are you adopting privately or through the state? If you're adopting through the state the wait varies. I was told the wait can be quite long for certain older age groups, if families only want to adopt one child. Most children in the system have siblings.
I was a licensed fost/adopt parent on Halloween of 2004. Thanksgiving weekend I was doing respite care for a potential match. He was placed with a family that had been waiting over a year for an infant boy. I got the call for my son on the morning of Dec. 30, he came home 2 hours later. I wanted a baby of either sex and as young as possible.
In Sept 2006, I submitted my application to adopt an infant girl as young as possible. My daughter came home 3 months later.
I'm now currently waiting for my referral for number 3, an infant girl. So far I've been waiting 8 months. Maybe I'll get a nice Christmas miracle.
Best of luck with your wait. I hope you hear something soon.
Asha & Yash,
Thank you so much for responding. I was under the impression that since I was not looking for an infant, that my wait would not be that long. I'm adopting through the state and only looking to adopt one child at this time. The children I inquired about that I've seen online do not appear to have siblings, but then again, you only get limited information. I did receive a letter from the CW handling a case I inquired about but that was back in October. I've heard nothing regarding the other cases.
Asha, appears you didn't wait too long at all. I hope my wait won't be much longer.
Yash, hope your little one comes soon!
I'll keep you posted!!
I adopted from foster care but used the foster to adopt program which gets you a placement much faster. The situations are legal risk and you can determine how much risk you are willing to take. We requested ages 0-4 and ended up with a newborn as well as being offered a 4 year old.
I don't think we have lot of waiting folks on the AA forums because we get our placements so quickly. Sad thing we don't have a lot of retention of members because things happen so quickly.
Good luck!
My placement took a bit longer than it normally does for AA families (over a year). But once the ball started rolling, it went FAST! I called my agency to re-open my file (10/14), baby born and bmom made selection on 10/24, bmom signed surrenders on 10/26, Norah came home on 11/14. Thirty days, from start to finish.
