Hi there, I am 46 and have been lurking on this site for awhile, and now am actively pursuing adoption. I have filed an application with the county and listed the choices of foster, foster/adopt or adoption. After my first interview with the case worker, I am leaning more towards straight adoption. I think I need to be here given my age, and the fact that I will be a first time mom. I had been leaning towards using the county cuz of cost, quite frankly. However, to get a baby, maybe I should check out private adoption? Any advice? Could someone pm me about what it may cost to go private? I am obviously gathering all the facts...:coffee: I am not against adopting an older child, up to say, 5 yrs old, but really want the experience of a baby, and let's face it, I'm not getting any younger. :) TIAMargaret

Talk to other Foster Parents in your area, some areas have a hard time placing newborns since they can't go to daycare until 6 wks. Depends on your situation. I know several who have gotten babies. Legal risk may be more of an issue since the parents don't necessary have substantiated of abuse of a newborn.
Thanks for the responses. Libby, the thought of getting a newborn is marvelous. I have been at my job for a long time and have lots of vacation accumulated, so I think taking time off would be a definite possibilty. Guess I have to get through the home study first. I am going to meet with an independent caseworker next week to learn more about what she can do for me. I'll keep you posted.Margaret
