New to this site so I'm not sure I'm in the right place but I saw some of the questions and answers referring to DYFS.
My son was told he is the father of an ex girlfiends baby boy. On the birth certificate no father was named. My son called and told DYFS the story and said he would be willing to take a paternity test. Seems that the mother of the baby isn't taking the process serious enough and they seemed happy to hear from him. It's now 2 weeks and he hasn't heard anything from the case worker from DYFS. Do you know what the DYFS process is? He wants to step-up and do the right thing for the baby. Why would they be stalling?
It's very frustrating on my end, knowing I may have a grandson. I can imagine what he is going through.
What should he do??? :(
Mema, welcome.
First, what state are you in, and what state is the baby in? This particular forum is for NJ, but we are happy to help you find the right forum if you are elsewhere - just asking because of your username. :)
If I were your son, I would start by calling back the person he spoke to, if he has the #. Does he know which county and/or city DYFS office he called? If that person isn't responsive, we can help you figure out which office to call to get the original contact person's supervisor, and you can go up the food chain.
