Hello,
Has anyone switched to domestic after a failed international?
We are older, 52, & 40, with 3 bio sons (10 & under). We would like to adopt a girl, but pursued international thinking we would never be picked domestically.
Due to program closures and lowering age restrictions, however, it seems we may no longer be eligible for any of the programs our international agency offers (and we are in over $15k:hissy: ).
We can't give up though. I would appreciate any advice on making the switch (updating/revising homestudy, etc.)
Any agency recommendations would also be profoundly appreciated (feel free to PM or email).
Thank you so much.

Laurel,
I've sent a pm to you this evening. As far as being picked in a potential situation....I can only say what one of our adoption attorneys has said, "I've never had a birthmother ask me how old a (hopeful adoptive) couple is."
I believe it. I would think the revising of your international study to domestic study would be fairly simple, as the international study requires that the agency be so much more specific.
Hope the pm helps in some way.
Sincerely,
Linny

Sleepytexan,
We are in the same boat. We have been pursuing an adoption from Vietnam for 17 months now, and it's looking like we won't be bringing home a baby afterall.
I've always been fearful of domestic adoption, since I believed all the scary stories. After much research, I am getting quite excited about it! But I do wonder if we will be appealing to any birthmothers. I am 47, DH is 43, and we have 2 children already, from Guatemala and Korea.
We are not prepared at all to give up, we still want our baby girl!
