I had hired a PI in 1995 and was given the surname of Henderson. Always thought that was my B.dads last name. I searched the free online CA birth records site today, only to find that Henderson was used ALOT with no first or middle names attached to the child. Seriously this should be against the law. From the early 1900's to 67 ( I only searched untill I found my year) in the state of CA this bogus surname was used. I would venture to guess that the father was not present or may not have even known...
Just an FYI to any of the folks searching for the surname of Henderson in the state of CA.
I am replying on my own post to advise the following:
If you have your b.date and no last name and was born in the state of California, please search VitalSearch-California(USA):California State Vital Records for the birth indexes of CA. Search the surname Henderson for your birthdate and you may find your mothers maiden name.
I believe now that this surname was used for (perhaps) children without a father present on the birth certificate that were being relinquished. This appears to start at around the 1900's up to present with NO childrens names.
It then begins again with the 1900's with the names of children, my guess born to actual Hendersons.
It's worth a shot...:flowergift:
