Hi all, I plan to switch my I600a from Guatemala to Bulgaria. Is anyone else doing this? My agency is recommending I do this - though it will create a real mess I believe if the I600a expires before the adoption completes (I'll apply for the one time free extension next month). This is my third attempt to adopt internationally - Russia, Guatemala, now Bulgaria. I'm a little jaded I guess -and not very believing of all the "trust us -Bulgaria is re-opening" talk from the adoption agencies. I keep looking for signs of movement (something-anything showing that Bulgarian adoptions really are opening again) - but only find blogs/homepages/forums where prospective parents are still waiting for a referral after many months longer that what the adoption agencies are reporting (9-18 months is what I read - depending on the agency). The Dept of state website doesn't sound positive about adoptions picking up in Bulgaria - it states there will likely only be about 20 adoptions from Bulgaria in 2008. I've already spent over $30,000 in adoption related expenses during the last three years - all for naught - and before I write this next check for $4K that my agency is asking for I want to know that those signs exist - that people are getting referals that adoptions are being completed. Has anyone heard anything concrete? Thanks, Susan
I have heard that someone in the agency I am using received a referral from Bulgaria prior to summer. Also Bulgaria requires the I-800A form. You might want to check with your agency to see if you will have to fill out the new form.

Evidently the I600a can still be used if you filed it before April something 2008 - but if you filed after that date the I800a (hague) form is required.
