I'm 43, recently discovered that I was raised by my paternal Grandparents and that they had Legal custody of me, and they also had my birth Legitimized in the Province of Alberta.
In other words they kept my birth name, because I was their son's child, my birth mother was only 14, and I believe it is very likely that she delivered me in the states and not in Canada. This was 1965 or 1966 we are talking about here, border control was a bit more lax than now.
I have not yet searched in the states for a birth record for myself, I do know the birth names of both of my birth parents, as I was raised around them as older siblings.
My question is this: If I was truly born in the states, I would have a birth record there. I do have a birth certificate in Canada, but can not obtain the Certified stamped raised seal of the Photocopy of the Original from Canada, and have been given the run around to a very MADDENING level. Now I am being told by Alberta Post Adoption that there are no adoption records there and that if I believe it was a Legal Name Change that I should contact an Alberta Registries office.
Does anyone know if in the event of a Legal Name Change in Canada with US citizens, but Canadian residents, would they have been able to remove my US birth record if I truly was born in the US? They seem to have legally replaced my original in Canada, but now I'm wondering if it was even there to begin with, and not in the states.
This is so confusing, I apologize if I am not making sense. Please feel free to ask for clarity. I have no funds to pay to keep chasing my tail, and I only have a cell phone and can't pay roaming charges to call Canada any more. I am presently out of work and barely making it.
Please assist if you can, I would be very grateful. I have dealt with Vital Statistics as well as the Registry Connect. I have also been told that for me to contact a Regitries Agent is not possible because I live out of the country. I am really confused.
Thank you for your assitance.
