For an unfortuante number of years now, the media has rabidly rushed to comment on the course of the election while voting is still in progress or be the first network/anchor/talking head to call the election before the polls have closed. Dan Rather caused a firestorm when he called the 2000 Florida election before the numbers were in. I am of the mind that this glory hogging by media personailities is grossly unfair to voters on the West Coast and particularly Hawaii, whose polls close last. I think voters there have a right to cast their vote before the media tells them their voted is pointless. Does anyone else feel media coverage affects the course of the election and would anyone else prefer a simple report of the facts and leave the Monday morning quarterbacking for Monday morning? Or at least LATE Sunday night?
I'm pretty much with you! On election day I wish they'd stick to recaps on the big points of the campaigns, maybe re run the last stump speeches not just the bites, maybe rereun the debates not just bites n bits, have on political experts for interesting discussions, or stick to interviewing the real people at the polls ....do everything and anything election day related that would interest viewerw...BUT leave the crystal ball junk to the carnival side show. No one deserves to be told their vote isn't going to matter, especially not by a pretty face on the tube.
Keep it real, keep it factual, keep it balanced is all the news should be about today and anyday.
Dan Rather himself said: "We've lived by the crystal ball, we're eating so much broken glass. We're in critical condition."

I'm in Cali and we're always like this - not just for elections. I think it's lame, but I'm used to it.
That's why I voted this morning and was waiting in line at 645. My vote is IN. On the other hand, they basically just put our electoral votes for the Dem. nominee anyway, so really, I feel MORE cheated because my state is already counted than I do the election results coming in early. (Although I admit, I vote the way most of california does so I'm not THAT upset  ) I know personally I'm counting down the minutes until some states close up shop so I can know how the election is going!
