Hello everyone!
I have a request for adoption agency feedback. Some background - since I cannot have children (emergency hysterectomy years ago), my husband and I were planning to adopt from China - I lived and worked in Singapore for three years, and traveled extensively in China during that time and thus felt very comfortable with China. However, we have only been married 3.5 years - and each of us has a prior divorce - thus China requires 5 years of marriage. In the meantime, we aren't getting any younger, I am 41 and my husband is 44. We are a bit concerned that it will be a 4 to 5 year wait for China, seeing as we can't start for even a year yet and, per one agency, it's now a 30 month wait from when your dossier is logged in before you get a referral.
In the meantime, I researched other countries and found Poland. I am actually 1/2 Polish, my father is full Polish born in Chicago. My dad, mom, and sister are quite excited about a "polish connection". My husband and I also think that it may work out well for us to adopt a older child, we would like a daughter, maybe from age 2 to 4, although I can't really tell from different variations of the rules on various websites what we would be allowed to do. (We do have one son -he is 18 and from my husband's first marriage. He doesn't live with us). So we are now examining the Poland adoption process closely and trying to come to a decision...
Now, I have obtained information from two agencies, Huminska's Anioly and Catholic Charities (Chicago) and have a request into a third agency, St. Marys. I would really appreciate feedback on your Polish adoption experiences with these particular agencies. I understand the feedback cannot be posted on the board, please pm me if you would like to share. I truly appreciate your help.
Thanking you in advance,
Gale
