... Are you adopting domestically or internationally? It would be much easier if you let us know the type of adoption you are doing. If domestic, are you working with an agency, finding a birthmother on your own and using an attorney, or going through the foster care system? If international, what country or countries are you considering?

I'm so happy to find this forum! My husband and I are just about to decide how we're going to adopt (domestic or international). I'm Jewish, he's not, but our children will be raised Jewish.
We live in the Philadelphia area -- does anyone have any recommendations for agencies/attorneys/homestudies in our area?
Thanks!

My husband and I can't wait to be adoptive parents. We have 1 bio son, who just turned 5. Given my infertility issues, he is a medical anamoly. #2 completely aluded us and w/o giving up our dream of having 2 kids, we rec'd our certiification a couple months ago. A bmom is reviewing our profile and 2 others right now...she is jewish (!) and specifically requested a jewish family! No drugs, no alcohol, father is giving consent. We hope she wants to meet us. She is due in August. (my birth month!) Not sure if it's a boy or girl, but it doesn't matter --only health of baby. Since we've entered this wonderful world of adoption, we are amazed at how MANY lives it touches. Who knew!! The waiting is hard...especially after 3 yrs of tx trying to have #2.... wish us luck!
Wow, Happy Mom!
That's great news! Do you mind if I ask what agency you are working with and how long you waited before being matched? Also, are you doing an open adoption (if so, how much contact have you agreed to)?
sorry to be so nosy, but I'm trying to get more information on others' experiences before I make my final decisions.
Thanks!

That is great news! I have been so worried about being a Jew and being rejected by birthmothers who only want Christian parents. It's difficult because I am also young and single. I feel like I have three strikes against me before I even start. But the two agencies I have talked to have assured me that being Jewish is not a problem, one assured me that being young was not a problem, but both have acknowledged that being single means it will take a bit more time. Oh, well, that's two hurdles jumped at any rate...
Good luck to everyone,
Noi
Hi my husband and I are jewish, we are trying to adopt from the state. We are just starting the process. We submitted our application and we already went through our orientation process. Right now we are waiting on a call from the sw to do our homestudy, and to complete our 30 hrs of classes,I am very anxious can anyone tel me how long this process is going to take. I was told 6 months for us to have a child placed in our home. also does anyone know what the statics are for foster adoptive families who adoptions are completed successfully. I have heard some horror stories on here and I would really like to here some positive ones.....
acgh2003,
I'm still waiting for my homestudy to be finished by one of the Colorado counties and it has been 7 months already. About every 6 weeks one step of progress is made. The way it is going, I think I'll have at least another 2 months to wait, maybe longer because the social worker told me I wouldn't be an appropriate home for an emergency placement because I don't want a child that might kill my pets.
In our classes they told us that with the legal risk adoptions (i.e., foster to adopt) the children were staying with (becoming available for adoption by) the foster/adopt family about 85% of the time, but they warned us to each think of our own chances as 50-50.
Of course those are the statistics for just one particular county, I'm sure it would vary in other localities.
Good luck with your adoption!

hi all how is everyone doing??? I think I have decided to make a time line that is very realistic.
Devert thank you for you post, its nice to hear people going through the same thing.. my husband and I are going to accept a drug exposed infant and we are open to take siblings... I think these children really need parents to count on. My husband and I have discussed the risk and are preparing ourselves for anything.
I am excitted and hope the next 8 mos begin to move quickly.... I am going to try to keep busy so I continue my daily routines and hopefully it will keeped me occupied so I won't get my hopes up.. Does anyone know how long homestudies done by the state of california take???? Thanks
I have thought about it and if we get an infant and are allowed to change our babies name I would like to call her Jayden Liana which in hebrew means My god heard my god answered.... How does this name sound.. I feel it fits perfectly.....
That's so great that you are willing to take a drug-exposed infant. I definitely agree with you that these children need homes; it's definitely a mitzvah that you are considering it.
As for the name, I like its meaning! Would you be pronouncing it the Hebrew way (Y instead of J, accent on 3rd syllable in Liana) or the English way? I like the Hebrew ways better, usually, for Hebrew names.
Take care, and best of luck,
Noi
