When our premature biological daughter was born in January '09, I began pumping. I continued pumping after she passed away, knowing that we would imminently begin the adoption process. I pumped exclusively for 4 months and 2 days until our premature adopted daughter was born 7 weeks early in May. I have been exclusively breastfeeding her since the night she was born and have just recently weaned off of pumping as well. She is growing like a weed:)! A lot of my breast milk that I have been storing in a deep freezer since January is going to the Mother's Milk Bank of Ohio - all my labs came back and I am approved as a donor. However, they do not accept milk that was pumped while on any herbs or meds. I have A LOT (hundreds of ounces) of milk that I pumped while on Fenugreek (to keep my supply up) and/or prescription meds - all of which are safe for use during breastfeeding (Keflex, Diflucan, and Flagyl). It has all been stored in a deep freezer (safe to use within the first 12 months). There is just no way that my daughter will use even a fraction of it before it begins to expire in January since I still have a full supply.
I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO SHIP SOME OF MY MILK TO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED! I OF COURSE HAVE A HUGE HEART FOR ADOPTIVE BREASTFEEDING COUPLETS AND WOULD LOVE TO OFFER YOU MY MILK IN PLACE OF SUPPLEMENTING WITH FORMULA. In particular, if you are adopting or have adopted a preemie I have a special place in my heart for little little ones! Please let me know if you are interested. As I said, my labs are all approved for donating to the milk bank. All I would ask in return is that you help me with shipping costs (I will ship it on dry ice just like I ship my milk to the milk bank).
GREATLY ANTICIPATING SHARING TAHLIA'S FREEZER FULL, IN MEMORY OF MY SWEET ELIANNA!
