Hi everyone. I have an attachment question that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I adopted my daughter in China in early November and we've been home for just over 5 weeks now. She's 11 and 1/2 months old. She seems to be attaching to me very well and honestly much quicker than I ever dreamed about.
However when she's getting ready to go to sleep she sucks on my clothing while I'm holding her and singing her to sleep. I know that sucking is a self soothing technique and she only ever does it when she's sleepy but I can't find anything specific to adopted kids and sucking. I don't mind her doing it but I'm concerned that maybe she isn't attaching as well as I think she is. Has anyone else experienced this with their children?
Thanks!
Does she have a pacifier? I never dreamed my child would still be using one at 2 1/2 but she just needs to suck. While she was on the bottle, she never used a pacifier but I gave her one because we both needed to sleep and I have friends who have had a much worse outcome when their kid started sucking their thumb. DD's pacifier will fall out of her mouth after about 2 minutes of being asleep but she still continues to make sucking noises.
DD goes to daycare-no pacifiers there-so she rubs her blanket on her face. Does your DD have any other soothers-a bear perhaps?
I would not think sucking on your clothing is related to attachment, just soothing, but I'm no expert.

Thanks for the help. I've offered my daughter a pacifier but she just plays with it. I think I'll just relax about the sucking and she'll outgrow it sooner or later.
