Does anyone have experience with either of these two therapies for trauma/attachment disorder? They are both available to me in my area and want to pursue one or the other, leaning towards neuro reorg for my daughter. However, I don't want to spend the $$$ if there isn't a good chance of improvement. She has abandonment/neglect trauma, probably beginning at age 1, and huge loss issues when drug addicted bio mom was murdered just after she was taken into care at age 8. There has been no contact with bio family since then other than with bio sister one year older who was adopted by first foster parents. My daughter was not adopted by them because she was severe emotional needs and SS was not clear about supporting them. Other than her sister, whose adoptive family greatly limits contact with my daughter (they don't want her to "regress"), she has had no further contact with the one caregiver she had in bio family, a senile 79 yo great grandmother. She is not FAS and according to medical records, mom was clean at birth and my daughter a normal delivery and healthy newborn.
I have also searched & posted to ATN forum.
Hi there,
I don't know very much about those two types of therapies in particular, but this attachment website talks a bit about useful/harmful therapies for RAD kids so maybe it will help? If it isn't listed, I believe they have forums and contact info where professionals may be able to give you some useful advice. Hope that helps?

If you're talking about EMDR....(Eye movement and desensitization reprocessing)---which has been shown (and recommended) to help with trauma---Yes. I've had it used on me---and also with children we've had that experienced abuse and trauma. I've attended a couple of seminars discussing it's use and effectiveness too.
It IS costly. I agree. But, while my own case was quite mild, I really did see results. And, while the abuse of the kdis was severe------it did seem to help.
I'd give it a try.

Thanks, Linny. I've been told that EMDR can be very effective with PTSD and anxiety, and I've been told by friends in the profession that the results are not at the high rate seen with neuro reorganization. Maybe at this point I myself could use some EMDR! :))
Our DD has been un-responsive to traditional methods of treatment, specifically regarding her rages: RTC, inpatient hospitalization, outpatient/attachment therapy, psychotherapy, therapuetic parenting, etc, etc.
Psychologist thinks trauma/neglect has caused brain damage and wants us to get testing. We have her scheduled for neuropsych eval and EEG, but now I am wondering about neuro-reorganization.
What "tests" do they perform to determine if this method of treatment might help? MRI? PET Scan? Neuropsych? EEG?
I don't want our DD to feel like some kind of scientific experiment, but I want to get her help. :grr:
