Not only is adoption past 40 possible but Cambodia, for example, requires single adoptive parents to be over 40. (They have a broader age range for couples.)

Go to your local social services office and adopt a special needs child. These children are often older and there special needs vary but it is possible to be matched with a child who is relatively healthy, may have some emotional problems, but I don't know a child who may not. There are many many precious children out there waiting for good homes. Almost every State has a web site where many of these children are posted. Private adoption agencies are expensive and can be very risky. Good luck.
