I am a single AA woman who has had 4 failed adoptions in a year and a half. Currently, I have the opportunity to adopt a 1 year old girl and a newborn boy (due 3/15).
I knew of the 1 year old first, but about a month ago, the BM due who is due in March called me. She had been holing onto an ad I posted in the newspaper since early January!!
With so many fall-throughs, I am ready to take them both! Am I crazy??? :banana:
More info on the 1yo... her mom is a friend of the family who has a drug problem... it is me or she remains in foster care.
Oh yeah, when it comes to infant formula, powder or ready-to-feed? :fish:

Wow, I'm so happy for you!!! :) I want it to rain babies here!! lol!! Good luck and I say you can do it!! I've got 4 kids (2 bio and 2 adopted) and honestly it's not a big deal once you get used to it all. And powder...cheaper and easy... :)

Ready-to-feed formula has BPA (bisphenol-A) in it. BPA is a hormone disruptor, and the more we learn about it, the worse the news gets. It's banned in Europe, and a lot of stores in the US have removed products meant for babies that contain it. However, BPA is found in the linings of almost all canned food, including ready-to-feed baby formula. BPA is found in the linings of some powdered formula too. Check out the Environmental Working Group (ewg.org), Healthy Child Healthy World, and ZRecommends for more info.
In short - don't use ready-to-feed formula if it comes in cans. Don't use plastic bottles - use glass.

:hypno: Thank you all for the advice! I have glass bottles and I plan to use them. I fostered a three month old baby last year and used glass bottles and powdered formula until I broke one on my hard wood floors. I continued to use the glass bottles in the house but, I also invested in some BPA Free plastic ones when we were on the go.
I will have some help when the baby comes. I have a neice who is 23 and great with children. I will take at least six weeks off work to bond and get use to my new llife.
I have not told lots of people in my family or my friends because I have had so many fall through and I think that they don't always understand. Also, my family comes in packs and from many cities on the East Coast. When they come to visit, I become the maid, cook, tour guide etc. :laundry: Oh! You say that they will be understanding because there is a baby or babies??? Yeah right! :evilgrin: Didi I mention tht they bring their laundry?? Gotta luv 'em!
