Has anyone else tried this? I highly recommend giving it a try.
The social worker at our adoption agency strongly encouraged us to bottle feed our 2.5 year old son, just adopted. I also read about it in several adoption books, where you "take them back" to developmental stages in order for them to go through them in a healthy way and bond with you. Truth be told, i thought it was a bit silly, but everything else the socialworker has said has been dead on, so I figured what the hey. He was very resistent at first, so I'd put it away and try again a week later, thinking that it wasn't going to happen. But lo and behold, our last attempt was successful! And the result is amazing. Its very very sweet, he snuggles up with me like a little baby and very loudly slurps on this bottle. Its too cute. Such a precious thing I never thought I'd get to share with him. He even displays rooting behavior when he bottle feeds, like a newborn does. I'm sure that's somehow a bad sign for normal development to show infant reflexes at 2.5...but its just so sweet I don't care, he is the way he is and I love him that way. He's like a different kid after baba time, he so mellow and content and extra snuggly. he wakes up happier and less defiant and aggressive.
I just had to share, i'm so happy with this acheivement! And because telling any other group of people about your excitement at bottlefeeding a 2.5 yo would not be well received! My grandmother looked at me like I was crazy

Awwwww! So sweet! Glad that is working so well for you and the little guy. I have not used this approach because my DD was 4 weeks old when I got her. Thus, it was an automatic bottle feed for me. However, I have heard that parents are having great success with this method. Congratulations on making it work for you. Enjoy your little guy!
