Hi everyone....
DH and I are new to this process. My story is a bit different though. I worked for an adolecent facility in FL, and met a young man. He is 14 and wonderful. I know in my heart that this is what I am supposed to be doing. Hubby took a job in Louisiana, and we moved. I contacted his caseworker, who talked to him and he is excited about this. We don't have any other kids, and just want to get this process going. The caseworker has not said anything to us about the MAPP class, but with all my research I know that we need to do this. We are going to do the class the next 4 saturdays here in Louisiana. The state of LA will do the home study and can forward that to FL when it is requested. We just want to know know what to expect, how long this process might take. I have tried contacting his CW via phone and email with these questions and have not gotten an answer from her. I am going to contact her supervisor tomorrow to see if we can get the answers. :grr: We are able to contact him daily, and he is doing great.

In order to move him from FL to LA you'd need to complete an ICPC and the SW needs to initiate that from Florida. I would keep trying to contact the FL CW as she's the one you need to get to start everything going.

Thank you. I am having trouble getting in touch with the CW, so after several phone calls, and emails I have left messages for her supervisor to call us. That was days ago. I know they are busy, but this child has been in foster care for 8 years... it is time to find him a forever home. We get to speak to him daily and he is so excited by the prospect of being adopted by us. Tonight I left a message for the ICPC worker to call me also. Hopefully someone will call me back. The process just seems to be so slow...:grr:

the wait sucks big time - especially after you know the kid. hang tight. not getting responses from CW is too typical
From what I have read and heard State to State adoptions are not easy. Often the state you are living in makes it hard because they want you to adopt a kid in there state not get another kid to watch over from another state.
I was told by a CW in one state not to tell the state you are living in you have interested in a child in another state when taking classes LOL
Good Luck
You are so lucky that you are able to contact him directly. :) ICPC usually takes longer than if you are going through your own state. However, I hear La gets it done very fast. Good Luck!

Just wanted to update everyone... We had our home study visits on May 25th and 26th. The worker here did them back to back to expedite the process. She had originally told us that she had 2 others ahead of us and they were kids that were instate, so those were her priorities. After close to 2 weeks we had not heard anything, so we contacted her to find out what the status was. She called us back and told us it would be at least 2 more weeks before she even started to put ours together. Then we got several phone calls stating she was missing information, that we had provided her already. Well that was last week that she was looking for paperwork we had given her. On monday this week (yesterday) she called us to tell us that she was fininshing the homestudy to give to her supervisor so it could be submitted to ICPC. She wanted to get it done, as her supervisor was going on vacation for a couple weeks. Hubby talked to our workers supervisor today and she had the home study in her hand, and was reviewing it before submitting it to ICPC. I also spoke to our "son's" caseworker in Florida. She said that as soon as she got the homestudy from ICPC she would call us, and we can bring him home.
Hubby and I spent all last week in Florida with him, and it was awesome. He is such an amazing kid, and we can't wait to get him home with us.
