My cousin and I have both tried to get the adoption records of our great grandmother who was adopted in Monterey County California in 1905. She does not have a birth record listed. We have a birth date listed at January 31, 1905. We know that the adoptive parents had a ranch and grew grapes and that the adoptive mother worked at a hospital over in Gilchrist.
Who or where do we go to get the records of the adoption? My grandmother said her grandmother told her that when they adopted the baby that it was a days buggy ride to pick up the baby.

Zalia Pearl Porter born January 31, 1905, her adoptive parents were
Zachariah Penfield Porter 1863-1926
Etta Mae Small 1876-1960
they were married in 1893 and had a son named Lloyd Clark Porter in 1894. They lived in Gilroy and was told she worked at a hospital there in Gilroy. Zach was a farmer. We think Zach may have been the father but it is only rumors. Zalia died in 1977 in California.
