My husband is active duty Navy and we are currently stationed in Naples, Italy for the next 3 years. I am 27 and he is 21 we have been married for 3 years. we just found out in June that we are expecting our first. My father was adopted so adoption has always been something Ive really wanted to do. We would like to start looking into adoption now since we have been told it is a long process. We dont even know where to start. We are hoping to adopt from the united states but its not mandatory. Since we will be overseas till 2013 is there anything we can do? Any help is much appreciated.
Congratulations on expecting the arrival of your first baby! Enjoy!
Truly, you're going to be a busy woman for awhile and though you'd like to adopt, I could only suggest that---for now---you read as much as you can about the process. You have time......and raising your first baby will only help you in raising the next, KWIM?
It's too far out to do a homestudy or really even talk to an adoption agency.....so I think reading might be the best thing.
FWIW, we adopted our first babies while stationed in Japan----MANY years ago! :)
Best of luck to you....
Sincerely,
Linny

My husband and I are also in Europe and we plan to adopt a waiting child from the States while we are here (God willing). It is possible to do it. There is at least one company who may be in your area. The are Adopt Abroad and they specialize in doing homestudies for families living overseas. Good luck.
