Hello, It was suggested to me that I petition for the adoption of my son (currently i am his legal guardian and he is under my care) in Texas.
I read that Texas accepts adoption petitions from non-Texas residents.
Can anyone confirm this??
Thank you very much,
Kore
I believe that counts if the child is a resident of the state, but I'm not clear how the rules work if neither of you live there any longer. Usually you have to wait 6 months to a year of living in a state before you can petition to adopt in your state/jurisdiction otherwise. So, say you live in New Mexico, depending on their jurisdiction requirements, they might be the ones who have to grant you the adoption because even though Texas gave you custody, the adopt is a completely separate matter (unless it says otherwise in your court papers).
