I have searched and can't seem to find much info on appeals in Indiana. I'm probably not going about it right. Can someone break down the appeals process in Indiana for me? Like after a judge terminates parents rights how long do they have to appeal? Once they appeal how long does that decision usually take? And how many times can they appeal?
I believe in IN they have 15 days after the judgment is passed to file an appeal. The judges usually have up to 90 days I think to decide on a TPR after a trial. An appeal could take up to 18 months to be heard. We didn't have appeals on our cases, but I've heard of it happening to a few people. I'm not sure how often overall though.

We are hopefully nearing the end of the appeal process on our little guy. He has been with us since be turned one. He will b four soon. Rights were terminated in may 2010. Appeal filed in june. They have 30 days to file an appeal in indiana.
The past six months were a waiting game while the appealate process turned its wheels. It takes an average of six months before the case is processed and sent to the judges for review. The appealate judges have 4 or 6 months to render a decision after they receive it. Ours was sent first part of january. We are now awaiting the decision. We have been told that the indiana appealate judges really try to hurry along these cases and to expect an answer prior to the four months. I hope so.
once a decision is made...if termination is upheld...the lawyers have 30 days to file to b heard by indiana supreme court or not. Supreme court rarely takes these cases except in questionable cicumstances or when there has been a dissent in appealate court. (Not total agreement of panel of judges). If no appeal to supreme court after 30 days then case is closed. In our case....adoption!!!!!!!"
