My husband and I are very lucky - a birth family (married couple) have asked us to adopt their unborn child. Here is my concern though - they are not US cititzens. They are in this country as migrant workers.
I have talked to a few adoption agencies and adoption attorneys. All have said that the birth parents citizenship would not be an issue in the adoption.
Is there any information that might give me some assurance that the adoption will go through?
The baby is due October 24! Yikes...our home study has not even started yet...
While none of us can tell you that your adoption is sure to "go through", there being many variables, I can tell you that if the child is born in this country, then the citizenship or residence of the birth parents should not be an issue.
If the child will be born in a state other than the one in which you live, you will need Interstate Compact approval, so consult an attorney in your state now, tobe sure the process is completed correctly.
Good luck!
