Hello, I know many Eastern European countries have a high FAS rate. My wife and I are 30 yr and because of our age we qualify to adopt an infant child from Poland. My question for those that have experince, is it likely for us to receive a referal for a healthy child. By healthy I mean no FAS symptoms and just developmental delays from ebing in an orphange setting?
I know Ukraine doesn't usually issue referals for Healthy children and I was wondering about Poland. Thank you and GOD BLESS!
You will not get an infant. Most infants are adopted by Polish people living in Poland. There may be some toddlers, but you are likely to have quite a wait. The children who are available for adoption are usually available because they have been removed from thier biological parents because of abuse or neglect, so there will be issues. Many children can overcome these issues though. I adopted a special needs child, in a wheelchair four years ago. During the time I was there, the children I met during my embassy appointments were mostly over the age of 2, many had delays, some had minor issues. (crossed eyes, etc)
Good luck in your journey.

We have been home withour 2 year old son since May. He is bright, loving, and an emerging commedian! We lived in the orphanage for 2 weeks while the adoption was being finalized. Because of this we met lots of other children and can safely say that there are lots of homes needed. Preference is given to Polish people living in Poland but there are older kids needing homes. I agree that you will not receive a referral for a baby. If I remember the law, the child needs to be offered in Poland for 1 year before an international referral can me given. Please feel free to PM me if you want more info. We had a great experience and absolutely love our little boy!
