We just became licensed to be foster parents in the state of Illinois about four months ago. We have been waiting on a placement since then and was thinking about doing a domestic infant adoption. But we have some concerns that I thought I would ask you guys and see what you think.
I have depression in which I take medication to maintain. I have been in therapy and would be able to get a doctors statement stating that I am well and have been stable for a long time. So that is a concern. Do adoption agencys frown on this.
Also another major concern is would we be a "marketable" couple. I have a masters in professional counseling and my husband has a BA in computer Science. He works for the USDA and I am a social worker. The thing that concerns me is our weight. My husband had the lap band surgery and has lost a total of 107 pounds. He is doing really well and we are working out and eating healthy. I also am overweight(275). We are both very healthy and are working on losing more weight. No health problems at all. We are 30yrs old. Have any of you had concerns that you wouldnt be "chosen" because of these issues. You can give it to me straight. Thanks in advance for the advice.
eagleswings- Thanks for the response. I just looked more on the past posts and found the one about weight:) This encourages me. Thanks

With regards to depression, my husband is on medication for depression. It wasn't a problem. We both had to get physicals for the home study, and a doctor needs to state that the person in question can meet the normal (traditional) demands of parenthood.
I hope this helps!
