You wonder what they were thinking, don't you.
Having said that, I was probably in hospital for the first few months of my life (slight medical problem) and was probably handled by lots of nurses and was then in a foster home until age of 3 months. I have no idea if that has had any effect - I'm certainly not a very tactile person.
Wow. I cannot even begin to imagine what effect that had on a developing brain. To never be able to count on who was going to put you down for a nap...and then to be woken up by someone new. There is no way that didn't have a profound impact on each of those children.
And to find out from an aunt on her death bed? How horrifying. :(
This is such a crazy story and so sad that "educated" people thought this was a good idea. This was around the same time when my birth mother was living in a crib, with brief human contact twice a day at her institution for disabled people. People had very different views then, but it is a very creepy story and so sad that these orphans were not tracked to see how this affected them.

That is how they take care of animals. It just seems sick. I was neglected in a foster home for 4 months until I was legally free. I still rock back and forth and exibit other institutionalized behavior. 35 years later. I am normal and healthy but there is damage unseen.:grr:
It was seen as great practise for girls, nothing aout the babies or how it might be for them, as always.
