Hi, I was hoping someone who is familiar with the foster care/adoption system in Florida can tell me how the "match staffings" work. I made an inquiry on a child recently and was told to send in my home study. The case worker then told me she would let me know when the match staffing was scheduled. Does that mean they will consider my HS when they do the staffing? In my state they don't tell you if your HS is under consideration, so I was curious how it works in Florida. Thanks

Congrats to you!!! I hope all works out well for you on your adoption process. Back in 2007, I started my homestudy, I told them I would accept any age up to 12, boy or girl up to 2 children, any race with mild medical and behavorial. I called the cw at first weekly, then monthly to remind her I am still for a child to be matched w me.
In 2008, I decided to take the route of foster care instead and the cw pretty much stopped looking for me. I was only in one staffing that I know of, and as it turned out a dear friend adopted that 2 year old!! At this point I am going to foster until I find the perfect match for adoption. I can't begin to tell you how awesome my experiences with this have been, I never thought I could let go of the children, and it is very hard, but most of them I keep in contact with, and one I am now her god mother.
The wait is long, it's frustrating!! I wish you well, I hope all works out, if nothing else, don't forget about the foster care option!!!

We are in Florida and licensed for straight adoption (not foster) only. We inquired on 100's of children all over the US over the course of about 5 months. Most we didn't hear back on.
We were considered for match staffing on 3 different little girls in Florida. We were told each time that our home study was selected to be presented at the match staffing. For two of the girls, our case worker had to call in to the match staffing meeting and "present" our family. The third match staffing did not require our case worker. We found out fairly quickly that we were not chosen and why (same day with two and a few days later on the other).
A case worker for a child in Texas contacted our worker to say we had been chosen to be presented at a match staffing. Our case worker was requested to be on the phone for this meeting. This was the child we were selected to parent! Our beautiful daughter has been home almost a year now. :thankyou:
Feel free to PM or post again if I can answer any other questions. I have info about our process in my blog, too. (link below in my signature).

typically what happens is you inquire on a child, they automatically ask for your home study. They collect home studies for a certain determined amount of time. Once they close the home studies, they will not accept any more. They then go through the recieved home studies and narrow them down to 3-10 depending on the state. Those are then taken to the match staffing and the staffing committee then picks the "best" home study to match the children's needs.
The home study chosen then recieves more information on the children and if they choose to move forward then meeting the children, and transitioning begins. Transition is determined by the children's needs.
