I received an email today from my worker with additional information on a child I inquired about from KS. The email asked my worker to share the child referral information with me and let her know if I was interested in pursuing adoption.
I have called the worker and emailed her but she must have been out today. How likely is it that I will be the chosen family since I said I was definitely still interested? Do they ask this question many times if they don't end up picking you? I don't want to get my hopes up but I SO excited about this possibility.
I don't know about KS, specificially, but in most states what you have experienced is just whittling down the hundreds of inquiring families to several dozen truly interested families.
Hundreds of people inquire about a child, based on the non specific information given in an online bio.
The worker replies to most of them (weeding out totally unsuitable families for that child), giving a little bit more of the child's information. This information will likely weed out some of the families, as they will not be equipped to handle a child with those specific issues.
Out of the families that still express interest in the child, the worker goes through homestudies to select the small handful that seem to be best matched to the child.
Out of that small handful, a committee or other worker chooses a tiny number - usually 3-5.
The workers of those 3-5 families are usually notified again and the child "goes to committee" - where the chosen family is selected. That family receives all the information there is about the child.
So you can see there are usually quite a few steps to the process! So hang in there, you're through at least the first hurdle.
