Soldier Dad
Soldier Dad what have you done,
Left behind your firstborn Son.
The child knows not who you are
Only knows you've gone so far.
Mother would not speak your name,
Still he seeks you just the same.
He can't believe you didn't care,
Wonders why life is so unfair.
Life without identity,
Who are you and who is he.
In the mirror that daily stare,
Who is the face he see's in there
Mother's end draws slowly near,
Conscience now she must clear.
Name and hometown she revealed,
At last the secret is unsealed.
Soldier George I'll find you,
Won't ever give in until I do.
Chances are that you'll be dead,
Then, by your grave I'll bow my head.
Lost identity now returned
You'll never know how I yearned
My search now over and done
Dad, I,m proud, to be your son.
