Hello everyone,
I am curious to meet other Desi/South Asian adoptees. I was adopted from Lahore, Paksitan and I'm currently beginning the process of planning a trip home to find my birth mother. This is just to meet others and find support. I am also interested in possibly traveling back home with another adoptee who is searching for birth family. If anyone here is interested in sharing experiences and/or just chatting please contact me!
Our stories as adoptees are too often silenced and unheard. So many times we here our lives being turned in an "issue" or other people's "rights" to claim ownership of our bodies. I am firmly against the practice of adoption as it is currently carried out by (in my opinion) agencies who care very little about OUR rights or the rights of our birth mothers. It is no coincedence that the common link between adoptees is a history of poverty. This needs to be analyzed and discussed. Why is it so many poor women of color cannot keep their children? And how does adoption, specifially transracial adoption (adoption where a child who is a person of color is being adopted by white parent (s)) replicate legacies of colonialism and imperialism? These are things I think we need to begin to discuss, because they play important roles in our lives and the choices that were made for us.
Anyways, I will stop at that...I hope to hear back from people I am always open for respectful dialogue.
Take Care and know whoever you might be, you are not alone in this,
