We completed all of our PRIDE training and were formally approved and licensed in late May 2010 through San Beranrdino County. We've received a few calls about placements that we were being considered for but so far we have not had a placement. We are both trying to be positive and hopeful, but as we near our 1 year anniversary of being approved and licensed I am feeling like maybe this will not happen. Our social worker has given us postive feedback about our homestudy and said the fit just hasn't been right yet. When we started this process they told us that most families are matched within 9 to 12 months, is that still realistic? I'd love to get some feedback on others experiences.
I feel your pain. 1 yr is a long wait!
I'd ask the SW was the deal is in terms of how he/she feels about what you are open to (race, needs, tpr status, etc). From the surface, it seems as if they would jump at placing a 4 or 5 yr old.
We are sadly reflecting on a recently missed placement. We've been waiting about 9 months and got a call. The child was 1 yr older than our stated range, so DH and I had to talk about it. We called back within 2 hrs, but they already found a home. They said we could talk about it although they did say they needed an answer asap.
Bummer for us, but lucky for someone else who was willing to blindly say yes without full disclosure.

If I'm not mistaken you have another child in the home right? I personally think you were wise to talk it over even if it ended up the way it did. :hissy: :hissy: :hissy: :hissy: so sorry about that....they should have given you a time frame of when to call back. :hissy: :hissy:
I am in a different county, but we have been waiting fifteen months.
In all fairness, we were matched with a 6 year old and my husband just didn't click with him. It near broke my heart. So now we are back to waiting. There are some days where I feel that it is never going to happen.
The wait is so hard.
We are also foster/adopting through SB county and were told the average wait was 1 year. We were matched and received placement after 6 months. Our criteria seems similar but we were also open to some special needs and developmental delays. Our SW recommended checking in at the 6 month mark and we did. When I called she said that we had not yet been matched but there may be one with a sibling set. I didn't hear anything back for several weeks and then got the call that we were selected. I think my initial call triggered something and I wonder how much longer we may have waited if I hadn't called at that time. Are you keeping in contact and do you know if you have been matched during this year?

Three days after I wrote these words, we were matched!

Wow. That's great. Your status says matched with 5 mo old. Wow, what a swing, from 6 year old failed match to 5 month old. It's crazy how these things work out. Congrats. I am STILL waiting 8 months+
Hi -
Not sure why the agency we started with was bursting at the seams with sibling pair matches... Our SW couldn't get us to get our homestudy stuff done fast enough.
There were 2 sibling pairs that meet our requests. Of course if you saw my previous post we have terminated our relationship with the agency and are starting again at square 1.
Just seems so curious. I don't get it.
We are in Ventura, CA btw.
Hi all,
I am in San Bernardino county and after a year of completing our homestudy we have been matched for foster-adoption. We had our disclosure presentation today and it was wonderful. We will be calling back with a very confident yet tearful Yes in the morning. WE are so thrilled. The little man is so cute!!! Of course we were given a picture. I can't put it down. He is close to a year old. And TPR has been set so everything looks promising for adoption. Hang in there everyone. The wait was hard. Many days of crying, frustration, and pity parties. And I was entitled to every second of it. But I really think this guy was meant to be ours. I pray everyone gets matched soon!! Godspeed!

I SO relate to the comment about frustration and pity parties. We have been put through the mill! The match we had is not happening (current FF changed their minds, after overnight transition visits). We are now at a year and a half of waiting.
I am so happy for you, because I know how happy you must be. Thank you, too, for sharing happy news, because it gives the rest of us hope that it WILL happen.
Looking forward to updates. :)
We got our call and we are now matched!!!! We are in the process of setting up our presentation meeting and are very excited.
I know the wait was hard and long, but worth every minute of it!!!
