We did not need help from the post. The state of Texas did almost everything. Even recommending an attorney. We did not use the Military reimbursment because the State of Texas reimbused us for everything including gas. We adopted our 2 sons (they are 5 and 7 now ) 3 years ago. We are now stationed in Colorado where we would like to adopt again. But we have looked at this state in depth and they are more concerned for the birth parents then the well being of the child. The bio parents have 6 months to change their minds then when you finalize in front of a judge the birth parents have an additional 15 daYS to change their minds. Seemed just too cruel for us!! We LOVE Colorado but it does not look like we'll be adding to our family here!!! When we were in the adoption process in Texas it took us a six week course and all the homestudy and questions. But it was only 1 month later we were offered our boys. We were not being picky, we just wanted to be parents! We wanted children under 10. No color or sex restrictions. We are now the VERY PROUD white parents of 2 African American boys who we would not trade for ANYTHING!!!!!!!! What a blessing they are to us!!! Our best advice is to ask lots of questions and be prepared for the agency to do the same!! GOOD LUCK and we will keep you in our prayers!!
