Anyone in Sacramento County? Approaching TPR, and wondering how it works here.

I adopted from Sac about two years ago, right when the budget cuts started. Every case is different, but mine adoption process with the TPR took nine months because of appeals. My son was living with us during this time. He moved in Marrch and we finalized in December. Social worker from our private agency did a visit monthly, Sac did one every other month after the first four, sometimes they would just call. We had to attend PCIT classes (parent child interactive therapy) during the wait. The social workers ask a lot of standard questions during the visits. What does he eat, how is he sleeping. I voiced a couple of concerns about school behavior and they were zero help. Not too impressed with this part of the process. Something you have to endure. Very invasive. My social worker from our private agency told us once to make sure we cater to whatever the Sac worker wants because she can take our kid away. Real s head. We are starting the process for our second child now, and we are having the privalege of working with him again. On a positive note it is all worth it, our son is great. Do your own research and reading and do not expect much help, they also like to leave things out about the child, so be wary.
I'm in Sac!!!! And both my kids are from Sac County. You can read my sig or PM me with specific questions. My Sac county SWs were/are great! It has been my agency SWs who make it a horrible process for us. We didn't experience any appeals with our kids TPR, but neither of our kids were having visits and their bio families never showed to court. I always look on here and never find anyone from Sac, so I'm so excited! I don't know how I missed this post all week!
I'm am from Sac, going through Sac County. Have a now 21month old boy who we are trying to adopt, received him in Sept of 2010, TPR was Dec 21, 2010 and the bio mom has appealed it. Which is a joke since she stopped visits with him in April 2010 when he was only 8 months old). But, we still have him in our home and they (bio parents) can't see him at all). They have told us not to worry, that for the appeal, the courts will just look at whether the mom got "due process", but of course we won't feel comfortable until it is finalized, which they say can be up to a year. His SW comes out once every 3 months and we just sit and wait.

Yay! You are one big step closer! I was told the appeal period was 70 days, not 90 for both my kids from Sac. Although I know when you've just had TPR it feels like it might as well be a hundred days because it feels so far off. Very exciting progress for your family. Thanks for updating us.

Yeah, that is great. We were told the appeal timeline was 60 days, unfortunately BM put in an appeal right away (Dec 2010) and we are still waiting. We aren't worried and the social worker has reassured us not to worry, that BM has nothing. But, it would be nice to have it finalized. Keep us posted.

Congratulations!
My adoption of Baby M was finalized about 7 weeks after the appeal was dismissed. I was about 3 weeks shy of the 6 month waiting period being over when the appeal was thrown out. My caseworker waited until the 6 month period was over before she turned in the paperwork and we finalized 4 weeks later, so I think we would have finalized sooner had I already met the waiting period.
