I am curious if anyone has an opinion on the value (or lack of value) of a neuro evalution. I hope I am using the correct lingo.
Our daughter (adopted from foster care) is 5 and has been dignosed with PTSD. Although not diagnosed as RAD, she does exhibit some attachment issue along the uninihibited side - but nothing too severe (we think). Our major issue to date are huge meltdown tantrums/rages that can last 1-2 hours. They are generally at bedtime and include both physical and verbal abuse, usually towards us although occasionally toward herself. And it isn't once in a while, it is every, single night, unless I can get lucky enough to have her fall asleep while I am reading stories.
At any rate we are considering getting her evaluated to make sure we are looking at the right things with the attachment therapy and ultimately dealing with the trauma and loss she has experienced, but our therapist kind of gave us the impression that even if we do an evaluation, there are few therapists around who can treat based off of it. I know it will cost a bit of out of pocket money, which isn't really a consideration for us. We will manage. But I am curious if anyone has found them helpful. Our schedule is fairly busy these days and the added stress of more appointments....well lets just say I am feeling a little tired, anxious and overwhelmed these days.
And I don't expect anyone to find us a quick fix, we have been at this for over a year now. I just don't want to be paddling up the wrong stream only to find out a few years too late.
There is a neuropsychologist in town that will do the evaluation and from what I am told you get quite a large report with his findings. I guess I'm also not sure where I would go from there.

I had this done for my kids who were born drug exposed. The testing lasted about 6 hours and then a report followed a few weeks later. The report was about 13 pages and very informative. The test cost about $2000.00, but insurance paid for it. The report has helped me to know what I am dealing with and has been useful for their teachers too. Your bedtime struggles sound just like ours. It has gotten better lately, but we've been at this for 8 years. I would recommend getting the testing done.
