Hello, everyone.
I want to adopt a baby/toddler. I'm thinking Russian, but I'm worried I won't be accepted as an adoptive parent for a variety of reasons.
I'm a 23-year-old female in Ontario, Canada. I'm not married, and I don't expect to become married (or be in a long-term relationship) when I adopt. I also don't have any money. I know adoption is expensive, and obviously I'm thinking in terms of the future. But adoption also takes a long time, doesn't it? I don't want to have to get married or strike it rich before this actually becomes plausible.
I want a baby, but I want it to mean something. I don't want to go out and intentionally get pregnant when there are kids out there who need loving homes. I can provide that for someone, and have the support of extended family. All the adoption sites I've been to have stressed that potential parents just need to be over 18, but I'm still worried.
What are your thoughts?
